Why Generic Downloaded Training Plans Can Lead to Injury and Disappointment

As the weather starts to warm up and spring racing season approaches, many runners are itching to get out there and tackle their first race of the year. With this increased enthusiasm comes a surge in website traffic for downloading training plans. But have you stopped to think about whether your success is due to the plan or despite it?

For those who have used pre-made, generic training plans and found success, I'd love to know what common denominators they share. In my experience as a coach, most of my athletes come from having had negative experiences with these types of plans.

One major issue I see is repeated injuries caused by the training itself. Runners may start out strong, but as they progress through the plan, their bodies begin to break down under the strain. This can lead to frustrating setbacks and a loss of confidence in their ability to complete the race.

This can result in disappointing races and a sense of discouragement.
